the wise old master martial artist confuses not so wise student and then tells him he’s ready. reminds me of a segment of a video game actually… monkey island, the second or third one, i can’t remember, where a conversation takes place about the color of trees and philosophy… if a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to see it, what color is the tree?
after listing every color and noncolor (onion is not a color, crayola tell lies) you’re given the option, as the video game character, to answer “all the colors”
which is the right answer. which is silly. then you go off onto your next mini mission. odd, yes.
but so is your master who just asked me to make a mess and clean it up, then go away.
love the “now you’ve made a mess” line by the way ^_^

I wrote this in a matter of minutes. I hope that some will be able to make sense of it. The “empty your cup” part is kind of cliche in the world of zen, but it is effective.
